Each year the ACT Training and Excellence Awards recognise the achievements and contributions of individuals, organisations and training providers to the ACT’s vocational education and training sector. At this year’s awards night Jess Baczynski of Cataldo’s Salon was awarded ACT Apprentice of the Year.
Jess has completed her Certificate III in hairdressing while undertaking a full time apprenticeship. The award recognises Jess’s passion and commitment to her craft, making her an outstanding ambassador for vocational education and training, as well as the hairdressing industry.
As the ACT winner Jess received a cheque for $3,000 and will have all expenses paid to travel to Adelaide to attend the Australian Training Awards in November. While in Adelaide Jess will be given the opportunity to attend professional development activities and network with other outstanding vocational students from across the country. She will then compete for the title of Australian Apprentice of the Year and a $5,000 prize. Jess will be competing against other State winners who represent a broad range of apprenticeships including carpentry, electrical and commercial cookery.
